Basement, September 2018

This client contacted us looking to finish their basement with a floor plan that included storage, a bathroom, a bedroom, wet bar and entertainment/home theater space, all while keeping the design mostly open. After working with them we finalized a plan with 800 square feet of finished space that included everything they were looking for!

Since the basement was basically untouched since the home was built, we started with framing and installed insulation and vapor barrier on all the exterior walls. All the walls and ceilings were finished with drywall, primed and painted. The flooring throughout consisted of premium carpet which brings a warmth to the space. Premium baseboard and door trim were applied as well.

The three piece bathroom includes a vanity with a quartz counter, full porcelain tiled shower with frame-less glass, and a porcelain tiled floor.

A custom made wet bar extends along the side of the seating space allowing full view and access of the bar area. Built with custom cabinetry, the bar fits perfectly within the space constraints of the underlying plumbing and HVAC. The bar includes ample drawers and storage space, a bar fridge, wine rack, sink, upper display cabinets and shelf. A quartz counter was selected to top off the bar area, which sparkles under the dimmable pot lights.

The focal point of this exquisite basement is the entertainment area. Consisting of a massive fireplace and TV, special considerations needed to be taken with regards to the weight and support of the TV, center channel speaker, and the heat dissipation of the fireplace. The structure of the fireplace surround is made of steel studding and concrete board so that the intense heat of the fireplace doesn't ignite any materials. The surround is cladded entirely in slate tiles and the mantle is made of the same quartz as the bar top. The upper section of the fireplace had to be set back in order to protect the TV from the heat of the fireplace. Custom venting was cut into the slate tiles in order to properly exhaust heat from within the fireplace surround.

Lastly, the home theater is made up of a 75" Samsung 8 Series with a Yamaha receiver powering a 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos surround speaker setup. The surround speakers are all hidden in wall and in ceiling, mated with front Paradigm towers and center channel. The center channel speaker had to have a custom mount made and attached to the TV wall mount due to the position of the fireplace and its heat output. The TV wall mount is a fully articulating mount that allows the TV to be pulled away from the wall for servicing which also moves the center speaker with it and maintains an appropriate angle for listening.
