These clients were looking to build out their unfinished basement and turn it into an entertainment and fitness area. Even though the space was limited (~600 sq. ft.), Renovations by Overmeyer was able to create a small home theatre area, fitness section, wet bar with wine and beer fridge, three piece bathroom, laundry room and still keep additional room for storage and a furnace room. We began by framing the new walls to define the various rooms, and added insulation, vapour barrier where needed, and electrical outlets before finishing with drywall and paint. LED pot lights were installed in the new, smooth ceilings. An electrical outlet and cable connections were added just above a full motion TV mount for a future flat screen TV. 12mm laminate flooring was installed on a premium underlay and vapour barrier, and the stairs which were previously unfinished required capping with oak and then staining to match the new floor colour. A new custom fitted railing was needed in order to keep the open concept design throughout the room. An acrylic shower base and door, porcelain tiles, vanity with stone counter and undermount sink were used to finish the bathroom. Due to the size of the area and the location of the existing laundry utilities, the laundry room was designed to be concealed in the bathroom when not in use. Three doors slide out of the way to reveal a washer, dryer and laundry tub as well as upper cabinets.
