One of our last projects of 2017, this basement was a complete tear down, including removal of the existing studs! We removed all the drywall, inadequate insulation, and studs. The laundry room and hallway needed some plumbing work in order to flatten out the ceilings and provide better access to the window. The concrete floors in the laundry area were also extremely unlevel but we were able to adjust it to accommodate a tiled floor. The laundry area was also home to the utility room, so we sectioned off the utility part but kept it easily accessible with a pair of sliding doors. The electrical panel was aging, and used fuses so we removed it and installed a new breaker panel. New 2x4 studs, proper insulation, vapour barrier and drywall was installed prior to our finishing work. The old fireplace was removed, and a new gas fireplace was installed in the corner of the main area. Above the fireplace a wall mounted TV was installed, with 4K ready HDMI cabling running to the side wall for their AV equipment. Dimmable LED pot lights were installed throughout, along with premium laminate flooring, ceramic tile in the laundry room, and 5-1/4" baseboard trim. The stairs were capped with oak, and stained to match the new laminate floors. A new railing was also installed, and stained to match as well.
